Practise Forum Geothermal Energy in Bavaria

We are pleased that our colleague from the Karlsruher Institute of Technology represented the MALEG project at this year’s Praxisforum Geothermie.Bayern.The forum served as a central platform for practice-oriented exchange on deep geothermal energy in Bavaria – bringing together experts from operations, industry, business, politics, and academia. The presentation entitled “MALEG – Machine Learning for […]

Water-Rock Interaction 18 & Applied Isotope Geochemistry

From June 16th to 21st, 2025, our scientific partners from the Karlsruhe Institute of Technology (KIT) participated in the Third IAGC International Conference on Water-Rock Interaction (WRI-18) & Applied Isotope Geochemistry (AIG-15), held in Cagliari, Italy. The event served as a prominent platform for international exchange on the latest research in geochemistry and isotope applications. […]

Demonstration phase in Unterschleissheim has been finished succesfully

The demonstration phase in Unterschleissheim wrapped up in February. The on-site emulator has returned to Freiburg to prepare for the demonstration phase in Turkey. The experiments in Unterschleißheim concluded with a focus on the degassing of non-condensable gases from the geothermal brine, depending on temperature, Reynolds number and gas composition, as well as the system […]

Presentation at the Austrian Geothermal Symposium

We attended the Austrian Geothermal Symposium in Vienna. Our industrial partners from Geosaic and Hydrofilt presented the MALEG project to a broad audience from industry, academia and politics in Austria. This year’s focus was on challenges and innovations in urban geothermal projects, where our project can make a significant contribution to solving the specific problems […]

Appearance at the German Geothermal Congress

The annual German Geothermal Congress was held in Potsdam in cooperation with the French geothermal community. Our team presented the latest scientific results in the poster bar and in the technological innovations session. In addition, one of the project initiators, Valentin Goldberg, was awarded the prize for the best young scientist. Many congratulations!

Relocation of the on-site Demonstrator

At the end of September, work in Haag am Hausruck (Austria) was completed and the on-site demonstrator was moved to its next location in Unterschleißheim (Germany). The demonstrator will remain at the Unterschleißheim geothermal power plant for the rest of the year. The main research questions at Unterschleissheim are related to the degassing pressure and […]

Sampling Campaign at Haag am Hausruck

In order to generate a comprehensive geochemical data set of the Haag am Hausruck power plant, extensive monitoring was accompanied by on-site experiments. The focus was on characterising the microbial activity occurring at random filters and pipe sections in the district heating network. Daily samples were taken from our demonstrator under different operating conditions to […]

Presentations at the DGMK Spring Conference 2024

Our colleagues from KIT attended the spring conference of the German Society for Sustainable Energy, Mobility and Carbon Cycles in Celle for the first time. The conference is an important annual meeting with industrial partners from the oil and gas industry. In addition to a full overview of the project, an in-depth presentation on the […]

Presentation at the Geotherm 2024 in Offenburg

We were part of the largest European conference on geothermal energy in Offenburg. Fabian Nitschke, the scientific director of MALEG, gave a presentation on the project and its basic concept. The focus was on the geochemical and geoscientific aspects of the project.

Contribution to the European Geothermal Workshop

We participated with 2 contributions to the European Geothermal Workshop from November 8 to 10 in Utrecht, Netherlands. First, a presentation of our project to introduce the idea to international partners and make new connections. Second, to present a poster on the progress made in developing the Digital Twin.
